Hi friends,
I always took the bus home after school.
The only problem was that the last lesson ended 30 min before the bus to my hometown left.
What better thing to do than utilize the time to finish homework or study for the next test.
(Yes, I was a total Amy Santiago in school … still am.)
In 9th grade, the unlikely day finally arrived when there was no homework to complete and no test to prepare for.
And I remarked casually to my classmate who was also waiting for the bus: “Kinda boring when there’s no schoolwork to do.”
I should have known that this wasn’t a “cool” thing to say. You can probably guess what happened the next day…
Well, this was the day I realized that I wasn’t quite like everyone else. That I simply LOVE to learn.
Now I know that’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Quite the opposite.
And I’ve since found people who’re just as obsessed as I am with learning new stuff and always striving to be better.
For example, my fellow Performative Speaking students Jen and Andrew who interviewed me this week and have a gift for asking brilliant questions.
Making these connections just lights me up!
Now, here’s what I want to share with you…
My Latest Video
Empowering people with video – a conversation with Cam Houser
Cam and I spend A LOT of time on Zoom these days as we’re preparing for the launch of the Minimum Viable Video course next week. Might as well record one of our conversations and explore why now is the perfect time to leverage the power of video to grow your business and accelerate your career.
We talk about:
- What dogfooding is and how it has nothing to do with dog food
- Why launching a new online course is nerve-wracking and amazing at the same time
- Why Cam got into video and teaching in the first place
- His non-traditional approach to teaching that accelerates learning and what part community plays
- What you can achieve when you start publishing videos and why you can’t achieve the same by writing blog posts
- The long-term vision for Minimum Viable Video
If you’d rather read, not watch, here’s the full transcript on my blog.
Your Actionable Copywriting Tip
Your “small fish in a big pond” advantage
If you’re still a little light on experience or your product is brand new, then your confidence stands often on shaky legs.
How can you compete with the big, established players in your field?
In this case, always remember that bigger isn’t always better. Think of all the large corporations that we view as untrustworthy and unreliable.
Wouldn’t you rather do business with someone who you know personally? Who would go the extra mile for you?
As the little guy or gal, you can make your authenticity, personality, and values work for you.
Share why you do what you do so your audience can form a connection. Show how much your clients mean to you and how they get your personal attention.
You’re not a faceless mega-corp and that’s a huge advantage!
Quote of the Week
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”
Anais Nin
This is my favorite quote and I made a video explaining my relationship with courage (includes an embarrassing school trip story).
Thanks for reading! Thoughts or feedback? I’d love to hear from you!
Virtual hugs,
Julia
