Hi friends,
After 1.5 years, I’m finally visiting my parents 🙌!
It feels good to be back home in Germany for a while. Although the “summer weather” as well as the German football team have been an utter disappointment so far ⛈⚽️😆.
My plans for the next weeks:
- Turning my old childhood bedroom into an office (getting help from Kevin Shen on my Zoom setup) 📹
- Meeting online friends IRL in Berlin next weekend 👯
- Keep shipping atomic essays as part of my 4th Ship30for30 cohort 🚢
Now, here’s what I want to share with you this week.
✍️ Copywriting
The simplest marketing framework:
— Dickie Bush 🚢 (@dickiebush) June 23, 2021
Use the same words your reader is using inside their head.
Draft the exact conversation your reader has with themselves when faced with the problem you're solving.
Then, use those words over and over again.
Trying to keep your copy as short as possible? Here’s why you shouldn’t
Do we live in a TL;DR society where everyone has a short attention span? That’s why you might try to keep your copy as short as possible, so your audience doesn’t have to invest a lot of time reading. But here’s why you shouldn’t and how long-form copy still works.
🤓 Online Courses
You can either have a large cohort of students & create a hype around enrollment stats or you can focus on a relatively small cohort, helping every student achieve their intended goals through personalized support.

Ultimately it boils down to what outcomes you want to focus on.
The simple funnel to launch your course 🚀
Growing your course sustainably comes down to 2 things…
- Knowing your funnel
- Optimizing every part of it
It doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s the simple funnel to start with:

Want to Create an Online Course But Don’t Know Where to Start? Consider a Community-Driven Course
ODCC fellow Leo Guinan shares a new approach to course creation that starts with community. He writes, “As a creator, I let the community direct which content I create.” That way, you’re sure to build something that people actually want.
📈 Productivity
A quick reminder if you feel overworked:
— Josh Spector (@jspector) June 25, 2021
👉 Work expands to fill the time you give it.
👉 The less you work, the more productive you become.
👉 Being busy isn’t a sign of success.
👉 Time spent working does not equal hard work
The moment in between
I didn’t write an essay around productivity this week, so I’m going to share this one from my fellow Ship30for30 shipmate Sue Izzo. She writes about something I catch myself doing too often. And that’s wishing away the moment in between yesterday and tomorrow (aka now) to just want the next moment to arrive.
Thoroughly enjoying my mum’s cooking 🥗🥘👩🍳,
Julia
