How to have better conversations & pitch yourself (the non-sleazy way)

Hi friends,

My mum told me she discussed the US elections with my grandma the other day on the phone. Neither of them have ever been to America.

For me, that was the ultimate sign that this topic is truly on everyone’s mind.

With opinions and opposing views wherever you look, I believe the need for better, more open conversations has never been greater.

How can we actively work on making that happen?

Here’s a challenge for you: In one of your next conversations, ask open-ended questions only. Why, what, who, when, where, and how are allowed. Listen and then ask a follow-up question. Let the other person be the star. It’s highly likely that you’ll get answers you never expected to hear. Especially not if you would have asked directly.

I’m curious to hear how this goes for you.

Now, here’s what I want to share with you this week…

How to pitch yourself the honest, non-sleazy way

For the most time, I felt uncomfortable selling myself. In the corporate world, I got away with not doing it. I let my work speak for itself and my bosses back me up. Now, I can’t get around pitching myself to potential clients and partners. Time to get over myself and give this a shot. Here’s my first pitch and a simple formula to help you develop your own.

Your Actionable Copywriting Tip

Social proof done right

Testimonials are everywhere for a reason. They can boost your credibility and crush any remaining doubts your prospects have about working with you or buying your product.

But a generic “This was really great!” won’t get you far.

So, how do you get an authentic, super specific testimonial from a happy customer?

Simple. Be specific about what you’re looking for when you ask them for their review.

Make it easy by giving them a framework for their response:

1. What were you experiencing in regard to [the problem] before hiring me/ buying my product?

2. What was the specific tipping point that made you realize you needed help?

3. What have been the specific results you’ve gotten? What have been some unexpected benefits/wins? What aspect made the biggest difference for you?

With a little direction, you can get useful, detailed testimonials that resonate with your audience.
