Having fun with online courses & my personal user manual

Hi friends,

I love waking up in the morning and not having to go anywhere in particular. For me, that’s a big perk of running my own business. And I’m happy that more and more people get to experience this feeling right now (even though it’s for a not so great reason).

What I do miss from my corporate job days, though, is having a team to joke around with, to solve tough problems, and to grow together. Being in it together makes working so much more fun.

But, I’m happy to report that this feeling is slowly coming back. I’m partnering with two talented, smart creators in launching and running their online courses:

  • Minimum Viable Video by Cam Houser, helping entrepreneurs and professionals grow their business and advance their careers with video.

  • GLUE IT! Practitioner by Steven Wilkinson, helping business owners develop an understanding of and confidence around their finances.

Plus, I’m part of a community of creators who support and learn from each other.

Without further ado, here’s what I want to share with you this week…

My Personal User Manual

Products come with user manuals, but people don’t. That’s a shame because it would make interacting with another and working together so much easier. So, why not write a personal user manual.

This document shows who I am. It gives you a first understanding of what I’m about and how I operate. Would love to hear if anything resonates with you. And if you decide to write one, please send it to me!

(Got the idea to write this from Brandon Zhang. You can read his version here.)

Your Actionable Copywriting Tip

Read your copy out loud

Whatever you’re writing, before you hit publish, you’re reading it at least one more time (at least I hope you do).

Read it out loud! It’s simple but effective.

And makes a huge difference. You’ll stumble over words and know that’s where you need to adjust. And if you sound like a robot talking, you have more work to do.

Bonus points for reading it out loud to someone else. Whenever I’m presenting copy to a client, I’m reading it to them. Even it’s a 3000-word sales page.

New online course I’m taking

Screenshot Tweet Performative Speaking

Call me online course obsessed, but it’s what has helped me grow this year tremendously. You wouldn’t be reading this if it weren’t for an online course.

This Monday was the start of Performative Speaking, where Robbie teaches us how to become more confident and persuasive speakers and communicators.

For me, public speaking was always more of a weakness than a strength, so this is the perfect opportunity to finish this year strong learning this meta-skill.

If this is something you’re struggling with, too, the next cohort starts Jan 11, 2021, and you can find out more here.

Quote of the Week

The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe it 100 percent.
